Another Journal Snatcher?

IIETA has all the hallmarks, including a rental office and suburban home base

Retraction Watch recently covered another mass resignation from journals, this time involving a set recently acquired by the International Information and Engineering Technology Association (IIETA).

As with another set of transactions outlined in an “invasion of the journal snatchers” examination last year (my further coverage here), this involved a distressed sale of journals to an OA publisher with publication levels quickly rising.

As with the rather infamous Oxbridge Publishing House, the reason for the “snatching” seems to be a way to get indexed journals at rock-bottom prices.

IIETA once upon a time portrayed itself as “a non-profit scholarly society based at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada,” but now calls itself “a scholarly society” and “a self-funded organization.” It is not registered as a charity or non-profit with Canada (I called to check). It is registered as a corporation in Alberta.
