Disrupted Science — the Book
After years covering the disruption of scientific publishing, the time has come

I’m pleased to announce a forthcoming book I am writing with Joy Moore. It’s due out in Spring 2026:

How the Internet Disrupted Science will explore the ways a variety of academic incentives, a tech-first mindset, naïve information theories, big money, and exploitable business models combined to disrupt the scientific claims market, one which had prided itself on rooting out bias and catching sketchy information before it reached professionals, journalists, and — through them — the public.
We are working to tie it all together into larger societal themes, and to provide a path forward that makes sense.
- Presales should be available in late Fall 2025.
Work so far has underscored the need for the title, especially given the environment we find ourselves in.
Subscribers to “The Geyser” will receive selected tidbits from time to time, and the pace of the newsletter may or may not slow — it’s hard to know, because sometimes a great post falls together with little effort, and writing the book so far has proven enlightening and capable of stimulating a post now and again.
- Updates on the publication process will be sent when warranted.
We want to get this right, so if you have any interest in sharing insights, refreshing our memories, making yourself available on relevant topics, contributing stories or vignettes, or acting as a resource in any way, please let us know by clicking the “Contact the Authors of the Book” button below.
Our goal is to explain a long, involved, and sweeping story in business, strategic, and financial terms as clearly and comprehensively as possible, and to make the wider world aware that problems they see in other areas of the information economy — news, television, social media — have also found their way into scientific information, but in ways we’ve made our own.
More to come, and thanks to everyone who has supported these endeavors to this point.
