Friday Song: “Kerosene”
A new song from the Warning reveals a trio rippling with confidence
I’ve been a big fan of the Warning ever since a kind soul turned me onto them a couple of years ago. I’ve flown to places to see them live. I’ve made fans among my family. I’ve included references to them in our upcoming book.
Young and talented, the band members are still firmly in their 20s, despite world tours, Latin Grammy nominations, and massive fan growth. Reminiscent of my other favorite power trio, Rush, the Warning is generating a truly mighty grassroots fan base that can’t be ignored — the Warning Army.
Las Wawas are not to be trifled with.
It’s an exciting time for fans, because the band is releasing new music, starting with a collaboration with Carín León.
Now they have another, the red hot banger “Kerosene.”
Telling the story of a beautiful orange Camaro stolen for an illicit joy ride to a fiery junkyard for an impromptu concert, the video’s imagery represents what the Warning brings back to life — rock music feeling dangerously rebellious, young, free, and alive.
The song starts in a sassy register, with lead singer Dany’s voice processed with extra distortion at the start. As the song proceeds, this distortion gets stripped away as the music takes over and the fun supercharges.
The video is full of fan service, with references to other videos, songs, band imagery, and even sponsorships tucked away here and there, along with some knowing jokes. One representative still is annotated below:

The video also introduces new imagery, including tattoos (temporary), retro iPods, cats and bats, cars, and flamethrowers, some of which the Warning know will push merch and download sales, a modern necessity for bands to make it financially.
The video also shows that drummer Pau is a natural ham on camera, that bassist Ale transmits cool diva while she shreds, and that together the trio is hitting a new level of confidence and cool.
- Another song being introduced in their initial live shows in South America — “Ritual” — is one of their best yet. But that’s for another day.
Show me your teeth, spit kerosene, and enjoy!
