“Spiders In the Dressing Room”

An alliteration-happy punk band from the 1980s knows how to make fun music

“Spiders In the Dressing Room”

The Toy Dolls have had 14 different drummers and 12 different bassists since they formed in 1979. Known for their hit “Nellie the Elephant,” the band often used alliteration in their song titles — “Fisticuffs in Frederick Street” or “Neville Is a Nerd” are good examples. They also wrote “Yul Brynner Was a Skinhead.”

Impish and silly, their music is fun punk. The song today exemplifies it — “Spiders In the Dressing Room,” which tells the tale of an brutal battle between a band member and a tenacious spider.

Dig That Groove Baby was the band’s first full-length album, and is generally considered their best. If you want a unique, delirious, and delightful musical experience, I’d recommend it.

“Spiders In the Dressing Room” was among many memorable tracks.

Beware the scream that introduces the spider.

Enjoy!
