Tallying the DOGE Cuts

Publishers large and small are caught in the cuts — here's what I could find

While the accuracy of the DOGE site remains unclear, based on the available information a number of scholarly and scientific publishers have been caught up in the chaotic cuts being made by a quasi-governmental team led by the richest (for now) man in the world.

Here is what I’ve been able to compile.

The numbers are the stated value of the contract DOGE has scrapped, and the “savings” they claim to have realized. In many cases, the savings are $0 in the current year.

This is all pennywise and pound foolish, of course — and the “savings” are going to lead to financial stress for many companies, non-profits, and information organizations. Those being forced to issue refunds will feel the pain first.

I’ve included legal publishers, just to underscore how reckless this all is.

Consumer Financial and Protection Bureau

  • Westlaw — Value: $2,664,885 — Savings: $0
  • LexisNexis Law 360 — Value: $266,418 — Savings: $88,806
  • ProQuest — Value: $170,492 — Savings: $0
