A Wiley What?paper @ OA
A "whitepaper" is accidentally funny
Play this game long enough, and you know the moves. Any corporate fluff promoting OA publishing will have the following factors:
- Nothing about quality
- Everything about quantity
- Squirrelly claims about citation advantages, easily dismissed via logic and facts
- Use of other questionable metrics
- Efforts to downplay or dismiss costs, complexity, or quality concerns
And so we come to John Wiley & Sons’ latest “whitepaper” called “The Evolution of Open Access for Institutions Across the Globe,” a bit of corporate communication with an uncertain audience and enough bumbling claims and overheated nonsense to keep me entertained for at least 15 minutes.
So, thank you for the chuckles.
