Ad Fontes Science
Inspired by our book, we’re launching a new division inside Ad Fontes Media
Ad Fontes Media is a Colorado-based public benefit corporation — a for-profit business with a stated public mission, which is to rate all the news to positively transform society.
Ad fontes is Latin for “to the source,” because at the heart of what Ad Fontes Media does is look at the source — analyze the very content itself — to rate it.
In November 2026, Ad Fontes Media added a new division, Ad Fontes Science, with Managing Directors Kent Anderson and Joy Moore, authors of the book, How the Internet Disrupted Science (Globe Pequot, 2026).
Ad Fontes Science will rate scientific, academic, and scholarly articles using a visual, two-dimensional rating system and clear taxonomy to help researchers, institutions, journalists, and the public navigate scientific publications with confidence.
Debuting at Charleston Premiers in November 2026, Ad Fontes Science will seek to move evaluation of research outputs from slow, antiquated proxy measures like citations and click counts to current and cumulative article-level evaluations based on criteria such as:
- A complete record of publication events
- Full disclosure of financial and funder ties
- Ethical disclosures (when applicable)
- Author roles in research design, execution, and interpretation
- Study design
- Clarity from research question to conclusion
- Claims based on evidence
- Authors with credible expertise and experience
- Claims written with nuance for peers
- Promotion within the scientific fields in question
By evaluating these and other elements of articles, tying these ratings to the parent journals, and parent journals to portfolios and ownership, we believe Ad Fontes Science will offer a variety of stakeholders a clearer picture of the scientific information landscape than ever before.
