Flagship brands with cascades make authors and reviewers feel exploited

Double Standards and Portfolios

I recently gave a talk to a group of leaders in a major surgical field, people who participate in the education, training, and careers of younger counterparts on the rise. It was eye-opening, with a lot of takeaways, which is why it’s always so great to actually meet people and hear from them.

Each of them was a million times smarter and more interesting than any LLM. And that will not change.

However, I digress. One of the big takeaways for me was that they see through the “cascade strategy” of publishers, and they feel exploited by it.

They see it as a double-standard in action.
