Layoff Rumors and Wiley Stalled

The collapse of OA continues, costing jobs, and putting once lustrous companies into the toilet

Let’s talk about two things we’re not supposed to talk about — the job losses and economic destruction delivered by the OA movement.

Last week, after some emails suggested there were more layoffs going on in scholarly publishing than companies were divulging — a topic raised by last month’s announcement of deep job cuts at OA publisher Frontiers — I asked readers for any information they might have about recent layoffs that might not have been announced.

While I don’t have specific numbers, haven’t verified these, and people caught up in job cuts often don’t know the full scope and scale, I’ve been told the following job reduction actions are taking place:
