Come See What’s Next for Us

Let us tell you about it at the Charleston Conference in November

Come See What’s Next for Us

When we reconnected in 2024, we shared a sense of urgency around a scientific information system that seemed broken, exploited, and headed in the wrong direction.

Why?

The business model doesn’t add up, the science has become a throw-away commodity, people are losing touch with reality, and international corporations hedge profit predictions by trading in papers.

Initial attempts to find venues to discuss this showed us that we needed to write a book to get attention among the broadest possible audience, so we did that — and we’re generally pleased with the results and its reception.

But we’re far from finished.

Through our research we realized the importance of taking an outside-in perspective. That is, we took a hard look at how journals and the international publishing infrastructure that makes them possible have been used, by whom, and to what end.

As two people with product development chops and commercialization instincts, once the book was off to the publisher, we thought, “OK, what do we do now?”

Could we change the conversation and get to work instead of continuing to argue with the past and fantasizing about the “what if” of the future?

We’ve been busy ever since, and on November 5th, we’ve been gifted five minutes to explain what we’ve been up to with a key audience — librarians.

We get to publicly announce Ad Fontes Science at Charleston Premiers.

Our presentation will cover the quick and dirty basics:

  • What is it?
  • How does it work?
  • Who should use it?
  • Who’s gonna pay for it?
  • Why should anyone care?

It will be a brief presentation, but we will be there all week previewing the idea, so if you want to have a meeting about it with us or members of our team who will also be there, just email Kent or Joy.

  • We’ll also be looking for some freelance help from people with editorial expertise. If you’d be interested, please contact us.

We’re excited to share Ad Fontes Science with you next month.

If you’re going to Charleston, let’s make sure we connect.
